Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Cut Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt. Peel the potatoes if desired, then cut them into thick strips, approximately 1/4 inch wide.

  2. 2

    Soak Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips into a large bowl of cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch, which helps in achieving a crispier fry.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to check the temperature for accuracy.

  2. 4

    Dry Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potato strips and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of potato strips to the hot oil. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pot; fry in batches if necessary.

  4. 6

    Drain and Season

Once fried, use a slotted spoon to transfer the fries to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. While they are still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika, tossing gently to coat.
