Method

Preparation of Ginger Syrup

  1. 1

    Chop the Ginger

Peel and chop the fresh ginger into small pieces. This will help release its flavor.

  2. 2

    Boil Ingredients

In a medium saucepan, combine the chopped ginger, granulated sugar, and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves.

  3. 3

    Simmer

Once boiling, reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 30 minutes. This allows the ginger flavor to infuse into the syrup.

  4. 4

    Strain the Syrup

Remove the saucepan from heat and strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl or jar, discarding the solids. Allow the syrup to cool.

Mixing the Drink

  1. 5

    Combine Syrup and Juices

In a large pitcher, combine 1 cup of the ginger syrup with 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of lime juice.

  2. 6

    Add Club Soda

Slowly pour in 4 cups of club soda to the pitcher, stirring gently to combine without losing too much carbonation.

  3. 7

    Serve

Pour the ginger ale into glasses filled with ice. Optionally, garnish with a slice of lemon or lime.
