Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 2

    Prepare the Bread

Tear the day-old bread into bite-sized pieces and place them in a large mixing bowl.

  3. 3

    Soak the Bread

In a separate bowl, mix together the milk and heavy cream. Pour this mixture over the bread pieces and let them soak for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Mixing Ingredients

  1. 4

    Combine Flavoring Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

  2. 5

    Combine Bread Mixture

Once the bread has soaked, gently fold in the egg mixture until everything is evenly incorporated.

  3. 6

    Add Optional Ingredients

If using, fold in the raisins and chopped nuts into the bread and egg mixture.

Baking

  1. 7

    Transfer to Baking Dish

Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and pour the bread mixture into it, spreading it out evenly.

  2. 8

    Bake the Pudding

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

  3. 9

    Cool and Serve

Allow the bread pudding to cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with whipped cream if desired.
