Method
Beef Preparation
- 1
Season the Beef
Rub the beef chuck roast with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until evenly coated.
- 2
Slow Roast the Beef
Place the seasoned beef in a slow cooker. Add 4 cups of beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until the beef is tender and easily shredded.
- 3
Shred the Beef
Once cooked, remove the roast from the slow cooker and let it rest for 10 minutes. Shred the beef using two forks.
Au Jus Preparation
- 4
Prepare the Au Jus
Strain the cooking liquid from the slow cooker into a saucepan to remove any solids. Simmer the liquid over medium heat for about 10 minutes until slightly reduced. This will be used for the au jus.
Sandwich Assembly
- 5
Assemble the Sandwich
Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through. Place shredded beef inside each roll, top with a slice of Swiss cheese, and spoon in giardiniera.
- 6
Melt the Cheese
Place the assembled sandwiches under a broiler for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serving
- 7
Serve with Au Jus
Serve the sandwiches hot with the prepared au jus on the side for dipping.
