Ahi Tuna

Cooking

Method

Prepare the Blackening Spice

  1. 1

    Mix the Spices

In a small bowl, combine paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, dried thyme, black pepper, and salt. Mix well to create the blackening spice blend.

Prepare the Ahi Tuna

  1. 2

    Season the Tuna

Pat the Ahi tuna steaks dry with a paper towel. Rub the blackening spice mixture generously over both sides of each steak, pressing it in to ensure it adheres.

Cook the Ahi Tuna

  1. 3

    Heat the Pan

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over high heat until shimmering, about 2-3 minutes.

  2. 4

    Blacken the Tuna

Carefully add the seasoned Ahi tuna steaks to the hot skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the exterior is blackened and the inside is still rare (adjust cooking time for desired doneness).

Serve

  1. 5

    Plate the Dish

Remove the blackened Ahi tuna from the skillet and let it rest for a minute. Serve with lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the tuna.
