Method

Preparation of Cheese Curds

  1. 1

    Prepare Cheese Curds

Ensure the cheddar cheese curds are at room temperature for better batter adherence.

Batter Preparation

  1. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, cayenne pepper, and mix well.

  2. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the milk and egg until well blended.

  3. 4

    Make the Batter

Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.

Breading Process

  1. 5

    Prepare Breading

In a shallow dish, combine the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix until evenly combined.

  2. 6

    Coat the Cheese Curds

Dip each cheddar cheese curd into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, then roll in the breadcrumb mixture until fully coated. Set aside on a plate.

Frying

  1. 7

    Heat Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Ensure there's enough oil to submerge the cheese curds.

  2. 8

    Fry Cheese Curds

Carefully add the breaded cheese curds to the hot oil in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.

  3. 9

    Drain

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried cheese curds and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 10

    Serve

Serve the cheddar cheese curds hot with your choice of dipping sauce, like ranch dressing or a spicy Sriracha sauce.
