Breadstick Preparation

Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Make Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it along with olive oil into the flour mixture. Stir until the dough starts to come together.

Knead Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Let Dough Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.

Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Shape Breadsticks
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long stick about 8-10 inches long.

Prepare for Baking
Place the shaped breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic powder, oregano, and salt.

Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese generously over the breadsticks.

Bake the breadsticks in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Add Tomatoes
Add the canned crushed tomatoes to the saucepan and stir in dried basil and salt. Simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
