Breadstick Dough

Method

Breadstick Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Make Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it along with olive oil into the flour mixture. Stir until the dough starts to come together.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let Dough Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.

Shaping and Baking

  1. 5

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. 6

    Shape Breadsticks

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long stick about 8-10 inches long.

  3. 7

    Prepare for Baking

Place the shaped breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic powder, oregano, and salt.

  4. 8

    Add Cheese

Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese generously over the breadsticks.

  5. 9

    Bake

Bake the breadsticks in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 10

    Cook Garlic

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 11

    Add Tomatoes

Add the canned crushed tomatoes to the saucepan and stir in dried basil and salt. Simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Serving

  1. 12

    Serve

Remove the breadsticks from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving with the marinara sauce on the side.
