Method
Preparation Directions
- 1
Prepare the Meat Mixture
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground lamb, grated onion, minced garlic, dried oregano, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- 2
Form the Gyro
Shape the meat mixture into a large loaf or log, approximately 8 inches long. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight to firm up.
- 3
Cook the Gyro
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the meat log on a lined baking sheet and brush with olive oil. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
- 4
Slice and Serve
Once cooked, let the gyro meat rest for 10 minutes before slicing thinly. Serve the sliced gyro with pita bread, sliced tomato, cucumber, red onion, and tzatziki sauce.
