Method

Preparation of Vegetables

  1. 1

    Slice the Vegetables

Thinly slice the onion and bell pepper. Clean and slice the mushrooms.

  2. 2

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and bell pepper and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until they begin to soften. Add the mushrooms and continue cooking for another 3-4 minutes until all vegetables are tender. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then remove from heat and set aside.

Cooking the Steak

  1. 3

    Grill the Steak

In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Season the thinly sliced steak with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Add the steak to the skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the steak is browned and cooked to your desired doneness.

  2. 4

    Melt the Cheese

Once the steak is cooked, reduce the heat to low. Place the provolone cheese slices over the steak in the skillet. Cover the skillet with a lid and let it cook for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted.

Assemble the Sandwiches

  1. 5

    Prepare the Rolls

While the cheese is melting, slice the sub rolls or hoagie bread lengthwise without cutting all the way through.

  2. 6

    Fill the Sandwiches

Once the cheese has melted, remove the skillet from the heat. Use a spatula to scoop the steak and cheese mixture into each roll, adding some of the sautéed vegetables on top of the steak.

  3. 7

    Serve

Serve the steak and cheese sandwiches warm, with additional condiments or toppings if desired.
