Method
Preparation
- 1
- 2
Cut Potatoes into Fries
Cut the peeled potatoes into even sticks, about 1/4 inch thick, to ensure uniform cooking.
- 3
Soak in Water
Place the cut fries in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and results in crispier fries.
Frying
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, pour in the vegetable oil and heat it to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to check the temperature for accuracy.
- 5
Dry the Fries
After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with kitchen towels to remove excess water.
- 6
Fry the Potatoes
Carefully add a batch of fries to the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Remove and Drain
Use a slotted spoon to remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- 8
Season the Fries
While the fries are still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.
- 9
Repeat the Process
Continue frying the remaining batches of fries until all are cooked and seasoned.
Serving
- 10
Serve Hot
Serve the French fries hot with your favorite dipping sauces such as ketchup, mayonnaise, or aioli.
