Method

Chicken Fried Steak

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Begin by tenderizing the beef round steak with a meat mallet. Season both sides with salt and pepper.

  2. 2

    Dredge the Steak

Set up a dredging station with three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs mixed with milk, and one with more flour. Dredge the steak in flour, dip in the egg mixture, and then coat with flour again.

  3. 3

    Fry the Steak

Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, fry the coated steak for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove and let drain on paper towels.

Mashed Potatoes

  1. 4

    Cook the Potatoes

Peel and chop the russet potatoes into quarters. Boil in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 5

    Mash the Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.

Country Gravy

  1. 6

    Make the Gravy

In the skillet used for frying the steak, add 1 cup of the flour and stir until combined with the oil and drippings. Slowly add the milk while whisking to prevent lumps. Cook until thickened, about 5 minutes.

  2. 7

    Season the Gravy

Add salt and black pepper to taste and keep warm until ready to serve.

Corn

  1. 8

    Prepare the Corn

In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add frozen corn and cook until heated through, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 9

    Season the Corn

Add salt to taste and stir well before serving.

Biscuit

  1. 10

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).

  2. 11

    Prepare the Biscuit Dough

In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in milk until just combined.

  3. 12

    Shape and Bake the Biscuits

Turn the dough onto a floured surface, knead gently, and roll out to 1-inch thickness. Cut out biscuits and place on a baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden.
