Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Glass

Begin by chilling your preferred whiskey glass by filling it with ice water. Let it sit while you prepare the drink.

  2. 2

    Muddle the Orange

Take the fresh orange and cut it in half. Squeeze the juice from one half into a mixing glass. Use the other half for garnish. Optionally, you can muddle the squeezed half in the mixing glass to enhance the flavor.

  3. 3

    Add the Bitters

Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters and 2 dashes of black walnut bitters to the mixing glass with the orange juice.

  4. 4

    Pour the Bourbon

Measure 2 oz of Old Forester bourbon and pour it into the mixing glass over the orange juice and bitters mixture.

  5. 5

    Add Ice

Fill the mixing glass with ice cubes, about 1 cup, to chill the drink.

  6. 6

    Stir

Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture gently for about 30 seconds to ensure that it is well chilled and diluted slightly.

  7. 7

    Strain and Serve

Empty the ice water from your chilled whiskey glass. Use a strainer to pour the mixed drink into the glass, ensuring no ice passes through.

  8. 8

    Garnish

Take the remaining half orange and cut a twist for garnish. Place the twist on the rim of the glass or drop it into the drink for added aroma.
