Method

Preparing the Dough

1

Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

2

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Mix well to ensure the salt is evenly distributed.

3

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

Once the yeast mixture is frothy, pour it into the bowl with dry ingredients along with the olive oil. Stir with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.

Kneading and Rising

4

Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. If the dough is sticky, sprinkle a little more flour as needed.

5

First Rise

Form the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

Shaping and Baking

6

Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Turn it out onto a floured surface and shape it into a loaf or rolls as desired.

7

Second Rise

Place the shaped dough into a greased loaf pan or on a baking sheet. Cover and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffed up.

8

Preheat the Oven

While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

9

Bake the Bread

Once the dough has risen, place it in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

10

Cool the Bread

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
