Method

Preparation of Ginger Syrup

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ginger

Peel the fresh ginger and slice it into thin pieces. Measure out 1 cup of sliced ginger.

  2. 2

    Make the Ginger Syrup

In a medium saucepan, combine the sliced ginger, 1 cup of sugar, and 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.

  3. 3

    Simmer the Mixture

Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 30 minutes. This will allow the ginger flavor to infuse into the syrup.

  4. 4

    Strain the Syrup

After 30 minutes, remove the saucepan from heat and strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a bowl, discarding the ginger pieces. Allow the syrup to cool to room temperature.

Mixing the Ginger Ale

  1. 5

    Combine Ingredients

In a large pitcher, combine the cooled ginger syrup with the fresh lemon juice and 4 cups of club soda or sparkling water. Stir gently to mix.

  2. 6

    Serve Over Ice

Fill glasses with ice and pour the ginger ale mixture over the ice. Optionally, garnish with lemon slices and mint leaves.

  3. 7

    Enjoy

Your homemade ginger ale is ready! Serve chilled and enjoy the refreshing taste.
