Herbal Blend

Method

Make the Herbal Blend

  1. 1

    Combine dried herbs

In a clean, dry bowl combine 1 cup dried hibiscus petals, 1/2 cup dried lemon balm, 1/4 cup chamomile flowers, 2 tablespoons dried lavender buds, 1 tablespoon dried passionflower (if using), 2 tablespoons dried rosehips (if using), 4 crushed cardamom pods (if using), and 1 tablespoon dried licorice root (if using). Gently mix with a spoon or your fingers to distribute ingredients evenly. Break up any large clumps so pieces are uniform in size for even infusion.

  2. 2

    Store the blend

Transfer the combined herbs to an airtight jar, label with the date and contents, and store in a cool, dark place. The blend will keep best for 6–12 months; aromatic strength may fade after that.

Brew a Cup (single serving)

  1. 3

Measure 1 tablespoon of the prepared herbal blend per 8 oz (240 ml) cup. If you prefer a stronger infusion, use 1.5 tablespoons.

  2. 4

Bring fresh cold water to a full boil (212°F / 100°C). Remove the kettle from heat and let sit for 30 seconds—this cool-down is optional but helps preserve delicate lemon balm and chamomile compounds.

  3. 5

Place the herbal blend into a teapot, tea infuser, or directly into your cup. Pour 8 oz (240 ml) of hot water over the herbs.

  4. 6

Cover and steep for 6–10 minutes. For a bright, tart hibiscus-forward cup, steep 6–8 minutes; for a milder, more floral calming cup, steep 8–10 minutes. Stir or gently swirl once at the halfway point (after ~4 minutes) to ensure even extraction.

  5. 7

Strain the tea through a fine mesh sieve or remove the infuser. Taste and adjust: add 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup if desired, or a slice of lemon for brightness (note: lemon will accentuate hibiscus tartness).

  6. 8

Serve warm. For iced tea, allow to cool to room temperature then refrigerate until cold and serve over ice.

Dosage & Notes

  1. 9

Suggested serving: 1 cup, 1–3 times daily as a calming beverage. If pregnant, nursing, or on medications (particularly blood pressure or anticoagulants), consult a healthcare professional before regular use. Omit licorice root if you have high blood pressure or are sensitive to glycyrrhizin.

  2. 10

To make a larger batch: use 1 tablespoon blend per 8 oz (240 ml) of water. For a 32 oz (1 L) pitcher, use ~4 tablespoons (¼ cup) blend and steep cold overnight for a gentler cold-brewed infusion or hot-brew and cool.
