Tea

Method

Tea

  1. 1

    Prepare water

Bring fresh cold water to a boil, then remove from heat and let it sit 30 seconds to 1 minute so temperature drops slightly (target ~95°C / 203°F).

  2. 2

    Measure tea and lavender

Place 1 tsp loose-leaf black tea and 1 tsp dried culinary lavender buds into a tea infuser or teapot with built-in strainer. If you prefer a subtler lavender aroma, reduce lavender to 3/4 tsp. For stronger floral notes, increase to 1.5 tsp.

  3. 3

    Steep

Pour 8 oz (about 240 ml) of the hot water over the tea and lavender. Cover and steep for 3 to 5 minutes. Steep 3 minutes for a lighter cup, 4 minutes for balanced flavor, and up to 5 minutes if you want a more pronounced lavender and stronger black tea. Avoid steeping longer than 5 minutes to prevent excessive bitterness or overly vegetal lavender notes.

  4. 4

    Strain and sweeten

Remove the infuser or strain the tea into a cup. Stir in 1 tsp honey or sugar to taste while the tea is hot so it dissolves fully.

  5. 5

    Finish (optional)

If desired, add 1 tablespoon milk or a few drops of cream for a silkier texture, or squeeze half a lemon wedge for brightness. Taste and adjust sweetener or milk.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve hot. For iced lavender tea, double the tea and lavender, steep as above, cool to room temperature, then chill and serve over ice with additional honey or simple syrup to taste.

For a larger batch (4 cups)

  1. 7

Follow the same method as above using the larger-batch ingredient amounts: bring 32 oz water to a boil, let sit 30–60 seconds, add 4 tsp black tea and 2 tsp lavender to an appropriate teapot or infuser, steep covered 3–5 minutes, then strain and sweeten with 4 tsp honey or sugar. Adjust steep time and lavender amount to taste.
