Slice the Pickles
Slice the pickles into 1/4 inch thick chips and set aside.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Whisk until well combined.

Add Wet Ingredients
In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then add buttermilk. Mix well, then pour this mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined; do not overmix.

Coat the Pickle Chips
Take each pickle chip and dip it into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.

Fry the Pickle Chips
Carefully place the battered pickle chips into the hot oil in batches. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Make sure not to overcrowd the pan.

Drain the Chips
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried pickle chips and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
