Method

Prepare the Dough

1

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, sugar, and instant yeast. Mix well to ensure even distribution of ingredients.

2

Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, warm the milk and water until just lukewarm. Then, add the melted unsalted butter to the wet ingredients.

3

Form the Dough

Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until a shaggy dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes on a floured surface until it becomes smooth and elastic.

4

First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.

Prepare the Butter Block

5

Soften the Butter

While the dough is rising, take the unsalted butter for the butter block and let it soften at room temperature. Once softened, shape it into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick and refrigerate until needed.

Laminate the Dough

6

Roll Out the Dough

After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle approximately 12x18 inches.

7

Incorporate the Butter

Place the chilled butter block in the center of the rolled-out dough. Fold the dough over the butter, sealing the edges to encase the butter completely.

8

First Fold

Roll out the dough again into a rectangle, then fold it into thirds like a letter. Wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

9

Second Fold

Repeat the rolling and folding process two more times, refrigerating for 30 minutes between each fold.

Shape and Bake the Croissants

10

Final Roll Out

After the last fold, roll out the dough to a large rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Cut the dough into triangles (base about 4 inches wide).

11

Form Croissants

Starting from the base of each triangle, roll the dough tightly towards the tip. Place the rolled croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, with the tip tucked underneath.

12

Second Rise

Cover the croissants with a cloth and let them rise for another 1-2 hours until puffed and nearly doubled.

13

Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) during the last 30 minutes of the croissants' rise.

14

Bake

Bake the croissants for about 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
