Melt Butter and Chocolate
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the unsalted butter and semi-sweet chocolate. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth. Let it cool slightly.
- 3
Whisk Eggs and Sugar
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the large eggs, large egg yolks, and granulated sugar until the mixture is thick and pale, about 2-3 minutes.
- 4
Combine Mixtures
Slowly pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture, whisking continuously until combined.
- 5
Add Flour and Vanilla
Sift the all-purpose flour into the chocolate mixture and add the vanilla extract. Gently fold the ingredients together until just combined.
- 6
Pour into Ramekins
Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling them about 3/4 full.
- 7
Bake the Cakes
Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center remains soft.
Serving the Cake
- 8
Cool and Invert
Remove the ramekins from the oven and let them cool for 1 minute. Carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate, allowing the cake to release.
- 9
Serve
Serve the warm chocolate lava cakes immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
