Method

Prepare the Bread

  1. 1

    Slice the Bread

Cut the baguette or rustic bread into 1-inch thick slices. If using a baguette, you can cut it diagonally for a more elegant presentation.

  2. 2

    Toast the Bread

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the bread slices on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the oven and set aside.

Prepare the Tomato Mixture

  1. 3

    Grate the Tomatoes

Cut the ripe tomatoes in half and use a box grater to grate the flesh into a bowl, discarding the skins. You should have about 1 cup of grated tomato.

  2. 4

    Mix Ingredients

Add the garlic clove (minced), extra virgin olive oil, and salt to the grated tomatoes. Stir well to combine and let it sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Assemble the Toast

  1. 5

    Spread the Tomato Mixture

Take a toasted bread slice and spoon a generous amount of the tomato mixture onto it, allowing some of the mixture to soak into the bread.

  2. 6

    Add Jamon Serrano

Place a few slices of Jamon Serrano on top of the tomato-covered toast, arranging them neatly.

  3. 7

    Garnish (Optional)

If desired, sprinkle some fresh basil or parsley on top for added flavor and presentation.
