Method

Prep & Rim

1

Prepare the glass

Pour the kosher salt or tajín onto a small plate. Run the lime wedge around the rim of a 12- to 16-ounce rocks glass or coupe to moisten evenly. Dip the glass rim into the salt or tajín, twisting to coat the edge. Set the glass aside.

Mixing

2

Combine base ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, add 1 cup of cubed ice, 2 oz reposado tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz agave syrup, and 0.5 oz triple sec. Secure the lid.

3

Shake

Shake vigorously for about 10–15 seconds until the shaker is chilled and the outside feels cold and slightly frosted.

4

Strain

Fill the prepared glass halfway with fresh ice if desired. Strain the shaken margarita mixture into the prepared glass over the ice, leaving room for the beer float.

5

Top with beer

Slowly pour 3 oz (about 1/4 to 1/3 of the glass, depending on glass size) of chilled light lager down the side of the glass or over the back of a spoon so it layers gently on top of the margarita rather than mixing fully. This creates the 'beer garden' effect.

6

Garnish and serve

Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim. Serve immediately with a straw or short stirrer so the drinker can blend the beer into the margarita to taste.
