Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Muddle the Herbs

In a sturdy glass, add the fresh mint leaves and Thai basil leaves. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently press down on the leaves to release their essential oils. Be careful not to tear them too much.

  2. 2

    Add Sugar and Lime

Cut the lime into wedges and add them to the glass. Sprinkle the sugar over the lime and herbs. Muddle gently again to combine the flavors. The sugar should start to dissolve as you mix.

  3. 3

    Mix in Rum

Pour the white rum into the glass over the muddled mixture. Stir to combine all the ingredients well.

  4. 4

    Add Ice

Fill the glass with ice cubes, packing them in gently to fill the glass without overflowing.

  5. 5

    Top with Club Soda

Pour the club soda over the ice until the glass is nearly full. Use a spoon to give it a gentle stir, mixing the soda with the rest of the ingredients.

  6. 6

    Garnish and Serve

Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint or a slice of lime if desired. Serve immediately with a straw for sipping.
