Tofu

Method

Tofu Preparation

  1. 1

    Press the Tofu

Wrap the firm tofu in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels. Place a heavy object on top (like a cast iron skillet) for about 30 minutes to press out excess moisture.

  2. 2

    Cut the Tofu

Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes, approximately 1-inch in size.

  3. 3

    Coat the Tofu

In a bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until they are evenly coated. This will help achieve a crispy texture when frying.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a kitchen thermometer to check the temperature.

  2. 5

    Fry the Tofu

Carefully add the coated tofu cubes to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally.

  3. 6

    Drain the Tofu

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried tofu from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Repeat with the remaining tofu.

Dipping Sauce Preparation

  1. 7

    Mix the Sauce

In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, honey (or maple syrup), minced garlic, and red pepper flakes. Stir well to combine.

  2. 8

    Garnish

Just before serving, stir in the chopped green onions into the dipping sauce.

Serving

  1. 9

    Serve

Serve the fried tofu hot with the dipping sauce on the side. Enjoy!
