Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4-5 liters of salted water to a rolling boil.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.

Making the Bolognese Sauce

  1. 4

    Heat Oil

In a large skillet or saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Sauté Vegetables

Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery to the pan. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until softened.

  3. 6

    Add Garlic

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

  4. 7

    Brown the Meat

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, about 5-7 minutes.

  5. 8

    Incorporate Tomatoes

Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper to the pan. Stir well to combine.

  6. 9

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer uncovered for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens.

  7. 10

    Adjust Seasoning

Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning with more salt or pepper if needed.

Serving

  1. 11

    Combine and Serve

Serve the spaghetti topped with the Bolognese sauce. Garnish with fresh basil and grated Parmesan cheese.
