Ingredients for Alabama Green Tomatoes

Method

Directions for Preparing Alabama Green Tomatoes

  1. 1

    Prepare the Green Tomatoes

Slice the green tomatoes into 1/2 inch thick slices. Sprinkle with salt and let them sit for 15 minutes to draw out excess moisture. Pat dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Make the Crust

In a bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, chopped green onions, roasted pecans, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Dressing

In a blender, combine buttermilk, roasted garlic, honey, salt, and pepper. Blend until smooth. Adjust seasoning as needed.

  4. 4

    Coat the Tomatoes

Dip each slice of green tomato into the buttermilk dressing, then coat with the cornmeal mixture, pressing gently to adhere.

  5. 5

    Fry the Tomatoes

Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the coated green tomatoes in batches until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Make the Bloody Mary Ketchup

In a bowl, mix ketchup with hot sauce. Adjust the amount of hot sauce to your desired spice level.

  7. 7

    Serve

Arrange the fried green tomatoes on a platter, drizzle with the buttermilk dressing, and serve with the Bloody Mary ketchup on the side.
