Method

Preparation of Ingredients

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef Patties

In a bowl, combine the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Mix gently and form the mixture into two equal-sized patties, about 1/2 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Toppings

Slice the white onion thinly and set aside. Shred or slice the cheddar cheese into 4 oz portions.

Cooking the Burger

  1. 3

    Heat the Griddle or Skillet

Preheat a griddle or a heavy skillet over medium-high heat until hot.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the beef patties on the hot griddle. Use a spatula to smash each patty down firmly, creating a crispy edge. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side.

  3. 5

    Flip and Add Cheese

Flip the patties and immediately place the cheddar cheese on top. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and the patties are cooked to your desired doneness.

Assembly

  1. 6

    Build the Burger

Place the smashed patties on the bottom half of each burger bun. Top with a generous amount of shaved white onion.

  2. 7

    Add Condiments

Add ketchup, mustard, and pickles if desired. Place the top half of the bun on the assembled burger.
