Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare Ingredients

Begin by preparing all necessary ingredients. Slice the tomato and onion into thin rounds. Grate the cheddar cheese if not pre-grated.

  2. 2

    Assemble the Toastie

Lay out 4 slices of Pullman bread on a clean surface. On each slice, layer 1 slice of ham, a few slices of tomato, a few slices of onion, and a generous amount of cheddar cheese. Top each with the remaining 4 slices of Pullman bread to create sandwiches.

  3. 3

    Butter the Bread

Spread 1 tablespoon of butter on one side of each sandwich. Make sure the butter is evenly spread to ensure a golden crisp.

  4. 4

    Grill the Sandwiches

Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium heat. Place the sandwiches butter-side down onto the skillet. Grill for about 3-5 minutes until the bread is golden brown.

  5. 5

    Flip and Grill

Carefully flip each sandwich using a spatula. Butter the top side of the sandwich with the remaining butter. Grill for another 3-5 minutes until the other side is golden brown and the cheese has melted.

  6. 6

    Serve

Once both sides are crispy and the cheese has melted, remove the sandwiches from the skillet. Allow them to cool for a minute, then cut each toastie diagonally and serve warm.
