Preparing the Patties

Forming the Patties
In a mixing bowl, take 1 pound of ground beef and gently shape it into two equal-sized balls without overworking the meat.

Seasoning the Patties
Sprinkle 1 tsp of salt and 1 tsp of black pepper over the formed patties, ensuring they are evenly coated.

Smashing the Patties
Place the beef balls on the hot skillet. Using a spatula or a burger press, smash the beef down into a flat patty approximately 1/2 inch thick.

Cooking the Patties
Cook the patties for about 2-3 minutes on the first side until a crust forms. Do not move the patties while they cook.

Flipping the Patties
Flip the patties and add a slice of cheese on top if desired. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese melts and the internal temperature reaches 160°F.
