Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the bread
Cut the bread into 1-inch cubes and place them in a large mixing bowl.
Mixing the Custard

Combine wet ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
Assemble the Bread Pudding

Mix bread with custard
Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes in the large mixing bowl. Gently stir until all the bread is coated with the custard.

Add optional ingredients
If using raisins or chocolate chips, fold them into the mixture at this point.
Baking

Transfer to baking dish
Pour the mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
Serving

Cool slightly
Remove the bread pudding from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

Serve warm with scoops of vanilla ice cream on top. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving.
