Burger Preparation
1. Prepare the Patties
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined, then form into 4 equal patties. Use your thumb to create a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up while cooking.
Bacon Onion Jam Preparation
3. Cook the Bacon
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove from skillet and drain on paper towels, leaving some bacon fat in the skillet.
4. Sauté Onions
In the same skillet, add olive oil and then the chopped large onion. Cook until the onion is soft and golden brown, about 8-10 minutes.
5. Add Ingredients for Jam
Add the cooked bacon, brown sugar, and balsamic vinegar to the onions. Stir and cook for another 5 minutes until the mixture is thick and caramelized.
Fries Preparation
6. Prepare the Potatoes
Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into fries or wedges, depending on your preference.
7. Fry the Potatoes
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry the potatoes in batches for about 5-6 minutes until they are golden brown. Drain on paper towels and season with salt to taste.
Assembly
8. Assemble the Burger
Toast the brioche buns lightly on the grill. On the bottom half of each bun, place a piece of lettuce, followed by a burger patty with melted cheddar, and a generous spoonful of bacon onion jam. Top with the other half of the bun.
9. Serve
Serve the assembled burgers with a side of freshly fried potatoes. Enjoy!
