Method
Cooking the Pasta

Boil Water
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat.

Cook Macaroni
Add the macaroni to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 7-8 minutes.

Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the macaroni in a colander and set aside.
Making the Cheese Sauce

Make Roux
Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until it turns golden, stirring continuously.

Add Milk
Slowly add the milk, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Continue to cook until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes.

Add Cheese
Reduce the heat to low and stir in the cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.

Combining and Serving

Mix Pasta and Sauce
In a large bowl, combine the drained macaroni and the cheese sauce. Stir until the macaroni is evenly coated.

Prepare for Baking
If desired, transfer the mixture to a baking dish and top with breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese.

Bake
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20 minutes until the top is golden and crispy.
