Method
Preparation
- 1
Juicing the Fruits
Begin by juicing the grapefruit and lemon. You will need 1 oz of fresh grapefruit juice and 0.5 oz of fresh lemon juice. Make sure to strain the juices to remove any pulp or seeds.
- 2
Making Simple Syrup
In a small saucepan, combine equal parts water and sugar (for example, 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar). Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely. Allow to cool before using. This will yield more than you need, so store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Mixing the Cocktail
- 3
Combine Ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add the Empress 1908 gin, fresh grapefruit juice, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup. Fill the shaker with ice.
- 4
Shake Well
Secure the lid on the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds to chill the mixture and combine the ingredients thoroughly.
- 5
Strain and Serve
Using a strainer, pour the mixture into a chilled coupe glass or cocktail glass. Make sure to strain out any ice.
Garnishing
- 6
Add Garnish
Garnish the drink with a slice of grapefruit on the rim and a twist of lemon peel dropped into the drink for added aroma.
