Basil Simple Syrup

Method

Basil Simple Syrup Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the syrup

In a small saucepan, combine the fresh basil leaves, granulated sugar, and water. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar has completely dissolved.

  2. 2

    Infuse the syrup

Once the sugar has dissolved, reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes to infuse the basil flavor. Remove from heat and allow to cool.

  3. 3

    Strain the syrup

After cooling, strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve into a clean jar or bottle to remove the basil leaves. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Cocktail Preparation

  1. 4

    Combine ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, add the Seedlip Spice 94, fresh lemon juice, fresh orange juice, apple cider vinegar, and basil simple syrup.

  2. 5

    Add ice

Fill the shaker with ice cubes to chill the mixture.

  3. 6

    Shake well

Secure the lid on the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds to combine and chill the ingredients.

  4. 7

    Strain and serve

Strain the mixture into a chilled coupe glass or cocktail glass. Optionally, garnish with a fresh basil leaf or a twist of orange peel.
