Method

Cake

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Slowly pour in the boiling water and mix until the batter is smooth.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cake

Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Chocolate Ganache

  1. 7

    Heat the Cream

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Do not let it boil.

  2. 8

    Add the Chocolate

Remove the saucepan from heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Let it sit for a few minutes to melt.

  3. 9

    Mix Until Smooth

Stir the mixture until the chocolate is fully melted and the ganache is smooth. Let it cool slightly before using.

Assembly

  1. 10

    Assemble the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Pour a portion of the ganache over the first layer.

  2. 11

    Add Second Layer

Place the second layer of cake on top and pour the remaining ganache over the entire cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.

  3. 12

    Serve with Ice Cream

Slice the cake and serve each piece with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
