Preparation

  1. 1

    Make Basil Simple Syrup

In a small saucepan, combine equal parts sugar and water with a handful of fresh basil leaves. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Let it simmer for a few minutes, then remove from heat and let it cool. Strain the syrup to remove the basil leaves and store it in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Cocktail Assembly

  1. 2

    Muddle Blackberries and Basil

In a cocktail shaker, add the fresh blackberries and fresh basil leaves. Using a muddler or the back of a spoon, gently mash the blackberries and basil together to release their juices and flavors.

  2. 3

    Add Liquids

To the muddled mixture, add the Ketel One vodka, fresh lemon juice, and housemade basil simple syrup. Fill the shaker with ice.

  3. 4

    Shake Well

Secure the lid on the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds to combine the ingredients and chill the mixture.

  4. 5

    Strain and Serve

Strain the mixture into a glass filled with ice. You can use a fine mesh strainer to catch any blackberry seeds for a smoother drink.

  5. 6

    Garnish

Garnish the drink with a fresh blackberry and a basil leaf on top for an aromatic touch.
