Make the Soda Base
In a medium saucepan, combine the water and granulated sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat.

Add Flavorings
Stir in the vanilla extract, baking soda, and food coloring (if using) into the soda base. Mix well.

Add Flavoring
Add the root beer extract or cream soda flavoring to the mixture and stir until fully integrated.

Cool the Mixture
Let the mixture cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until chilled.
Final Assembly

Combine and Serve
In a glass, add ice cubes and pour in the chilled soda base. Top with chilled carbonated water. Stir gently to combine and serve immediately.
