Baked Beans Ingredients

Method

Baked Beans Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beans

Rinse the dried navy beans under cold water and remove any debris. Soak the beans overnight in a large bowl with enough water to cover them by several inches.

  2. 2

    Cook the Beans

The next day, drain the soaked beans and place them in a large pot. Add 6 cups of fresh water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for about 1 hour, or until the beans are tender.

  3. 3

    Sauté Bacon and Onion

In a skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and chop it into small pieces. In the bacon grease, sauté the chopped onion until soft and translucent.

  4. 4

    Combine Ingredients

In a large baking dish, combine the cooked beans, sautéed onion, chopped bacon, brown sugar, molasses, mustard, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Stir well to combine all ingredients.

  5. 5

    Bake

Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 2 hours. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until the mixture is thick and bubbly.

  6. 6

    Serve

Once baked, remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your homemade baked beans!
