Method

Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the ingredients

Cut the mozzarella into sticks, about 1/2 inch thick and 3 inches long. Set aside.

  2. 2

    Set up the breading station

Place the all-purpose flour in one bowl, beat the eggs in another bowl, and place the breadcrumbs in a third bowl. Mix salt and black pepper into the breadcrumbs.

  3. 3

    Bread the mozzarella sticks

Dredge each mozzarella stick in the flour, shaking off excess, then dip in the beaten eggs, and finally coat with breadcrumbs. Press the breadcrumbs onto the sticks to ensure they stick well. Place the breaded sticks on a baking sheet.

  4. 4

    Freeze the sticks

Place the baking sheet in the freezer for at least 30 minutes to firm up the mozzarella and prevent melting during frying.

  5. 5

    Heat the oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  6. 6

    Fry the mozzarella sticks

Carefully add a few mozzarella sticks to the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the hot mozzarella sticks with homemade marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
