Baguette

Method

Baguette Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape the Baguette

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into two equal pieces. Shape each piece into a long baguette.

  6. 6

    Second Rise

Place the shaped baguettes on a lined baking sheet. Cover and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.

  7. 7

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).

  8. 8

    Bake

Make shallow cuts on the top of the baguettes and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Let cool before slicing.

Seasonal Butter Preparation

  1. 9

    Prepare Butter

In a mixing bowl, soften the unsalted butter. Add fresh herbs and salt. Mix until well combined.

  2. 10

    Chill

Transfer the herb butter to a container and refrigerate until firm.
