Method
Preparing the Burger
- 1
In a mixing bowl, combine 1 lb of ground beef with 1 tsp of salt and 1 tsp of black pepper. Mix gently until just combined, then form into one large patty, about 8 oz.
- 2
Caramelizing the Onion
- 3
While the burger is cooking, slice the medium onion into thin rings.
- 4
Making the Dressing
- 5
In a small bowl, combine 1 tbs of mayonnaise, 1 tbs of ketchup, 1 tsp of sweet pickle relish, and 1 tsp of Dijon mustard. Mix well until smooth.
Assembling the Patty Melt
- 6
Once the burger is cooked, place 2 slices of Swiss cheese on top of the patty and let it melt for about 1 minute.
- 7
To assemble the patty melt, spread the house-made Thousand Island dressing on one side of each slice of marble rye bread.
- 8
Place the burger with melted cheese on one slice of bread, top with the caramelized onions, and then cover with the second slice of bread, dressing side down.
