Method

Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatball Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, eggs, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Mix and Form Meatballs

Using your hands, mix the ingredients until fully combined. Form into meatballs about 1 inch in diameter.

  3. 3

    Cook the Meatballs

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove and set aside.

Spaghetti

  1. 4

    Boil the Water

In a large pot, bring 4 quarts of water to a boil. Once boiling, add 1 tablespoon of salt.

  2. 5

    Cook the Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Sauce

  1. 6

    Prepare the Sauce Base

In the same skillet used for the meatballs, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.

  2. 7

    Add Garlic and Tomatoes

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Then add the canned crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, sugar, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 9

    Combine with Meatballs

Add the cooked meatballs to the sauce and simmer for another 10 minutes.

  5. 10

    Finish the Sauce

Stir in the chopped fresh basil just before serving.
