Method
Preparation of Tiramisu Layers
Make the Cream Mixture
Add granulated sugar and vanilla extract to the egg yolks. Whisk until the mixture is pale and creamy. Then, gently fold in the mascarpone cheese until smooth.
Whip the Egg Whites
Using an electric mixer, whip the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the mascarpone mixture, being careful not to deflate the mixture.
Whip the Heavy Cream
In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined.
Preparation of Coffee Mixture
Brew the Coffee
Prepare a strong brewed coffee and let it cool to room temperature. If using, mix in the coffee liqueur.
Assembling the Tiramisu
Dip the Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.
Layer the Ingredients
In a rectangular dish, layer half of the dipped ladyfingers at the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
Complete the Layers
Repeat with the remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone mixture to create a second layer.
Chill the Tiramisu
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best flavor.
Serving
Dust with Cocoa Powder
Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder using a fine sieve.
Slice and Serve
Cut into squares and serve chilled. Enjoy your classic Italian tiramisu!
