Pork Belly
Apple Sauce
Method
Crispy Pork Belly
Prepare Pork Belly
Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Score the skin of the pork belly in a crosshatch pattern, being careful not to cut into the meat.
Season the Pork
Rub the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and five-spice powder all over the pork belly, making sure to get the seasoning into the scored skin.
Cook in the Oven
Place the pork belly on a wire rack set over a baking sheet and roast in the preheated oven for about 2 to 2.5 hours, or until the meat is tender.
Crisp the Skin
After the pork belly is tender, increase the oven temperature to 450°F (230°C) and cook for an additional 30 minutes, or until the skin is bubbly and crispy.
Rest and Slice
Remove the pork belly from the oven and let it rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing into pieces.
Apple Sauce
Add Lemon Juice
Once the apples are soft, remove from heat and stir in the lemon juice.
Blend the Sauce
For a smoother sauce, use an immersion blender or transfer the mixture to a blender and puree until desired consistency is reached.
Cool and Serve
Allow the apple sauce to cool before serving it alongside the crispy pork belly.
