Beef Filling

Red Gravy

Method

Beef Filling

  1. 1

    Cook the Beef

In a skillet over medium heat, add ground beef. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.

  2. 2

    Add Vegetables

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

  3. 3

    Season the Mixture

Stir in salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, and tomato sauce. Cook for another 5 minutes until heated through. Remove from heat and let cool.

Rice Preparation

  1. 4

    Cook the Rice

In a pot, bring chicken broth to a boil. Add Arborio rice, reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for about 18-20 minutes or until rice is tender and absorbs the broth.

  2. 5

    Mix in Cheese and Egg

Once cooked, remove from heat and stir in grated Parmesan cheese and beaten egg until well combined. Allow to cool.

Breading Process

  1. 6

    Set Up Breading Station

Prepare three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with salt.

  2. 7

    Form Arancini

Take a small amount of the rice mixture, flatten it in your hand, add a spoonful of beef filling, and form into a ball. Repeat until all ingredients are used.

  3. 8

    Bread the Balls

Roll each ball first in flour, then dip in beaten eggs, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.

Frying and Serving

  1. 9

    Heat Oil

In a deep frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat until hot.

  2. 10

    Fry the Arancini

Carefully add the breaded arancini to the hot oil, a few at a time. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Making Red Gravy

  1. 11

    Sauté Garlic

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 12

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Stir in crushed tomatoes, dried basil, oregano, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
