Hot Banana Peppers

Method

Preparation and Baking

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 2

    Prepare the Peppers

Wash the hot banana peppers and slice them lengthwise, removing the seeds if desired for less heat.

  3. 3

    Make the Sauce

In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the San Marzano tomato sauce, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for about 5 minutes.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Dish

Spread a thin layer of the tomato sauce in the bottom of a baking dish. Place the prepared banana peppers cut side up in the dish. Fill each pepper with remaining sauce, then sprinkle shredded asiago cheese and shredded basil on top.

  5. 5

    Bake

Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

  6. 6

    Serve

Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy as an appetizer or side dish!
