Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4 liters of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add 400 grams of spaghetti to the boiling water. Cook for about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until al dente.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside, reserving a cup of the pasta water.

Making the Sauce

  1. 4

    Heat Olive Oil

In a large skillet, heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Sauté Garlic

Add 4 minced garlic cloves to the skillet and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.

  3. 6

    Add Tomatoes

Pour in 800 grams of crushed tomatoes, and stir well.

  4. 7

    Season the Sauce

Add 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes to the sauce. Let it simmer for 10-15 minutes.

  5. 8

    Add Basil

Stir in 1 cup of chopped fresh basil and let it cook for an additional 2 minutes.

  6. 9

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the sauce. Toss to combine, adding reserved pasta water as needed to achieve the desired consistency.

  7. 10

    Serve

Plate the spaghetti and top with 50 grams of grated Parmesan cheese.
