Onion Rings
Method
Preparation
- 1
Slice the Onions
Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.
- 2
Prepare the Batter
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Whisk together until well combined.
- 3
Add Sparkling Water
Gradually pour in the cold sparkling water while whisking the dry ingredients. Mix until you have a smooth batter. The batter should be thick enough to coat the onion rings.
Frying
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or a heavy-bottomed pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test this by dropping a small amount of batter into the oil. If it sizzles, it’s ready.
- 5
Coat the Onion Rings
Take each onion ring and dip it into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Let any excess batter drip off.

- 7
Drain and Serve
Once cooked, remove the onion rings from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
