Method

Steak Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Steak

In a bowl, combine olive oil, soy sauce, lime juice, garlic powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Whisk until well mixed. Add the flank steak to the marinade, ensuring it is fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for more flavor.

  2. 2

    Cook the Steak

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade and let excess marinade drip off. Grill or cook the steak for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until your desired doneness is reached. Remove from heat and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

Vegetable Preparation

  1. 3

    Slice the Vegetables

While the steak is marinating, slice the green bell pepper and onion into thin strips. Set aside.

  2. 4

    Sauté the Vegetables

In the same skillet used for the steak, add the sliced bell pepper, onion, and green chiles. Sauté over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender and slightly caramelized.

Assemble the Philly

  1. 5

    Slice the Steak

After the steak has rested, slice it thinly against the grain.

  2. 6

    Assemble the Sandwiches

Divide the sautéed vegetables evenly among the hoagie rolls. Top with sliced steak and layer on the provolone cheese. Place assembled sandwiches under a broiler for 2-3 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  3. 7

    Serve

Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and serve hot with your favorite sides.
