Rib Preparation

Method

Rib Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ribs

Start by preheating your oven to 300°F (150°C). Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs, if not already done. Rinse the ribs under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Season the Ribs

In a small bowl, mix together the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Rub this spice mixture all over the ribs to ensure they are well coated.

  3. 3

    Bake the Ribs

Place the ribs on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil. Cover the ribs tightly with another sheet of foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 2.5 to 3 hours until the ribs are tender.

BBQ Sauce

  1. 4

    Make the BBQ Sauce

While the ribs are baking, prepare the BBQ sauce. In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Whisk together until smooth.

  2. 5

    Simmer the Sauce

Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.

Finishing Touches

  1. 6

    Glaze the Ribs

Once the ribs are tender, remove them from the oven and discard the top foil. Brush a generous amount of BBQ sauce over the ribs.

  2. 7

    Broil the Ribs

Switch the oven to broil. Return the ribs to the oven and broil for 5 to 10 minutes until the sauce is caramelized and bubbling. Watch closely to prevent burning.

  3. 8

    Serve

Remove the ribs from the oven and let them rest for a few minutes. Slice between the bones, serve with remaining BBQ sauce on the side, and enjoy!
