Method

Preparation and Baking

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). This will ensure that your baked potatoes cook evenly and get a nice crispy skin.

  2. 2

    Wash the Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the russet potatoes under running water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a paper towel.

  3. 3

    Pierce the Potatoes

Using a fork, pierce each potato several times on all sides. This allows steam to escape while baking, preventing them from bursting.

  4. 4

    Oil and Season the Potatoes

Rub the olive oil all over the potatoes. Sprinkle the salt and black pepper evenly over each potato.

  5. 5

    Bake the Potatoes

Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet. Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the skin is crispy and a fork easily pierces the flesh.

  6. 6

    Prepare the Toppings

While the potatoes are baking, prepare your toppings. Chop the chives, and shred the cheddar cheese if not pre-shredded.

Serving

  1. 7

    Remove and Cool

Once baked, carefully remove the potatoes from the oven using oven mitts. Let them cool for a few minutes.

  2. 8

    Cut and Fluff

Using a sharp knife, make a slit down the center of each potato, being careful not to cut all the way through. Gently squeeze the ends of the potato to fluff the inside.

  3. 9

    Add Toppings

Add 1 tablespoon of butter to each potato, followed by a dollop of sour cream, a sprinkle of chives, and a generous handful of cheddar cheese.

  4. 10

    Serve and Enjoy

Serve your baked potatoes hot as a side dish or main course, and enjoy!
